2. Why are all the characters based on urban legend creatures? Why not human or aliens or other creatures?
While many cartoons in the West and East have featured ghosts, they usually only show up in a few episodes, and most of the time, it’s the same ghosts like Western spirits or the Chinese Jiangshi. Rarely do we see Southeast Asia’s own urban legends, like the Pontianak, Orang Bunian, and many more, take the spotlight.
Seeing this gap, our team wanted to do something different. We set out not just to make another comedy cartoon, but to create something fresh and revolutionary — a show that celebrates our culture and shares it with the world. From that vision, Kisah Bawah Tanah was born.
